caller display unit displays the telephone
number of the calling party, while the called
party's telephone is ringing. Most caller
display units will also store details of
at least the last 20 calls received. |

| In
the UK there are two standards for sending
caller display information. One is the standard
used by BT and the other is the standard used
by most of the cable companies such as Telewest.

used to be a problem, but now almost all caller
display devices that are available are operate
on both standards…..even the BT branded models!

| In
order to use a caller display device you will
usually need to get the service activated
by your telephone network operator. It is
usually a chargeable service. |

display units are available as standalone
devices or as part of other devices such as
telephones, answering machines, cordless phones
and fax machines. |
